German – American Day 2004 Celebrated

WARMINSTER, PA – On June 27, 2004, the German – American community of Philadelphia and vicinity celebrated its 29th Annual German –American Day. Approximately 1500 guests attended this year’s event on the grounds of the Vereinigung Erzgebirge in Warminster, Pennsylvania. Proceeds of the event, sponsored by the Steuben Day Observance Association of Philadelphia and Vicinity, benefit the 34th Annual German-American Steuben Parade that will be held on Saturday, September 25, 2004.

The J.T. Dance Band filled the afternoon with entertainment. In addition, there were performances by area Shuhplattler dancers groups, area Kindergruppen, and area choral groups. German food and drink was also available for all.
 
Al Taubenberger, President and General Chairman of the Steuben Day Observance Association of Philadelphia and Vicinity, local dignitaries spoke to the assembled guests. Local dignitaries included Lynn Abraham, District Attorney of Philadelphia; Jonathan Saidel, City Controller of Philadelphia; and Melissa Brown,
Congressional Candidate for Pennsylvania’s 13th Congressional District. An official proclamation from the City Council of Philadelphia was also received proclaiming June 27, 2004 German-American Day in the City of Philadelphia.
 
The highlight of the afternoon was the crowning of the 2004-2005 Cornflower Queen and her court. The Cornflower Queen represents the Philadelphia German-American Community at various functions within the United Sates and in Germany. This year’s court is comprised of: Miss Syacy Mullen, Second Princess; Miss Christine Haul, First Princes; and Miss Krystal Musselman, Cornflower Queen. The Association wishes these ladies all the best as they begin their reign.
